Magnesium Tallow Lotion Recipe

A Note from Me: This magnesium tallow lotion is my secret for soft skin and a calm mind—it’s like a spa day in a jar. I swapped store-bought creams for this when I learned how nourishing tallow is, and the magnesium boost helps me unwind. You’ll feel so good making (and using) it!

What You’ll Need

  • ½ cup grass-fed beef tallow (rendered at home or from a farmer)

  • ¼ cup magnesium oil (make it: ½ cup magnesium flakes + ½ cup hot water, dissolved and cooled)

  • 2 Tbsp almond oil (or jojoba—keeps it light)

  • 1 Tbsp beeswax (pellets or grated, for texture)

  • Optional: 10-15 drops lavender essential oil (for that sleepy-time vibe)

  • A double boiler (or a glass bowl over a pot), blender, and a jar.

How to Make It

  1. Melt the Base: In your double boiler, gently melt the tallow, almond oil, and beeswax over low heat. Stir ‘til it’s smooth—takes about 5-10 minutes.

  1. Cool It Down: Take it off the heat and let it cool slightly—warm, not hot (think cozy bath temp).

  1. Blend in Magnesium: Pour the magnesium oil in slowly while blending with a hand mixer or immersion blender. Keep going ‘til it’s creamy and fluffy—magic!

  1. Add Scent: Stir in lavender oil (if using) with a spoon—don’t overmix now.

  1. Jar It Up: Scoop into a clean glass jar and let it set at room temp. It’ll firm up a bit as it cools.

  1. Use It: Rub a little on your legs, arms, or feet—perfect before bed or after a long day.

Tips from My Kitchen

  • No tallow? Try shea butter, but it won’t be quite as rich.

  • If it separates a bit over time, just stir it—magnesium’s tricky like that.

  • Start with a small patch test—some folks tingle with magnesium at first.

Why I Love It

It’s pure, homemade luxury that hydrates like crazy and chills me out. Plus, I feel like a pioneer crafting it!
